The legacy of Henry Paul Strnad is a testament to the power of community, service, and preservation. Henry’s deep commitment to Munden was evident throughout his life—whether through his role as a lay minister, a farmer, a small businessman, or an active community member, he devoted himself to ensuring that Munden would flourish for future generations. In 2014, after Henry's death, his dedication to the town and its people continued to resonate. The sale of his and his brother's cherished tractor, symbolizing the family's selfless devotion to preserving Munden, serves as a reminder of their profound love for the community.
Our mission is to carry forward Henry Strnad’s legacy by supporting projects that promote the preservation and development of Munden. This includes funding initiatives that restore and enhance Munden’s historic structures, provide resources for local businesses, and strengthen the ties within the community. By investing in these efforts, we honor Henry’s vision of a town that continues to grow while maintaining its strong sense of community spirit and cultural heritage. HONORING HENRY’S LEGACY

Building a Thriving Munden for the Future

Henry Paul Strnad was born on December 11, 1933, in Republic County, Kansas, and spent his entire life in the Munden community. As the fifth child of Bohumil (Milek) Strnad and Lois Elizabeth Sanford Strnad, he grew up on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work, integrity, and service. Henry attended Bethlehem School and Munden High School, where he graduated in 1951. His education continued at Fairbury Junior College, although his heart and roots always remained firmly in Munden.
In 1954, Henry married Anita Rose Rundus, and they had three daughters. His life was a model of service to others—whether in farming, business, or community leadership. He was a lifelong member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Munden, where he served in numerous capacities, including Elder, Church Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher. Henry also served as a lay minister at the Danish Lutheran Sunday School and in many other congregations throughout Kansas and Nebraska. His service was not limited to the church; he was an active member of various organizations, including the Republic County Czechs and Kansas Czechs, Inc., as well as a past president of the Republic County Historical Society.
Beyond his civic roles, Henry was a man of many talents—he was a mechanic, builder, historian, archivist, truck driver, electrician, and plumber, among others. His expertise and contributions to the community were invaluable, and he had a gift for hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and heard. Whether as mayor, city councilman, or simply as a neighbor, Henry dedicated his life to improving the town he loved.
